Immigration permission
Can I legally work from here?
A visa, a visa-free stay, or a residence permit may allow presence. It may or may not allow the work. The conditions are what matter.
Mobility
Understand the immigration, tax, employment and banking questions that sit behind working online from another country.
Remote work may be location-flexible. Legal and tax obligations often are not.

Where you work can affect immigration permission, tax residence, payroll, employer obligations, banking and insurance. A digital-nomad visa may solve one layer without solving the others.
Professional advice may be appropriate before you rely on a stay, a visa or an employer’s silence.
The work
People use the phrase for employees, freelancers, consultants, founders and business owners. Those are different legal positions. A laptop does not make them the same.
Employed by an organisation, working from somewhere other than its office.
Selling your own services, usually invoicing more than one client.
A form of freelance or employed advice. The contract decides which.
Running a company, which may itself have a tax and payroll life.
A status some countries use for people who are not employees. It is not a visa.
Owning a business is not the same as having permission to work in the country where you happen to be.
Two questions
Can I legally work from here?
A visa, a visa-free stay, or a residence permit may allow presence. It may or may not allow the work. The conditions are what matter.
Could this country treat me as tax resident?
Days, a home, family and where work is done can all be relevant. The analysis is separate from the visa, and it belongs with a qualified adviser.
A digital-nomad visa does not automatically determine tax residence.
Who is working
A route, where one exists
Some countries publish a route for people who work remotely for clients or an employer elsewhere. What qualifies, including any income test, is local. This page does not state a salary, a duration or a recommended programme.
The organisation
An individual visa does not answer whether the organisation must register, withhold, insure, or change how it employs you. Employer obligations may arise. They should be raised with the employer, not assumed away.
A company question
Activity by an employee or a founder may raise business-tax questions in the country where the work is done. Role, authority, how long the presence lasts and what is agreed there can all matter. This is not a conclusion. It is a reason to ask.
Permanent establishment is a specialist tax and legal concept.
Pay
Home payroll, a local payroll, or a shadow arrangement that reports in more than one place are concepts employers and advisers use. Social security contributions may follow their own rules. None of this is settled by the fact that the work is done online. This page does not describe a country’s system.

Records
A personal record helps with residence questions, with the limits of a visa, with travel history, and with what an employer may later ask. This page does not state a day threshold. Different tests count days differently, and some tests barely use them.
Several countries
Frequent movement can create overlapping residence questions, visa limits that do not line up, uncertainty about healthcare, and banks that are unsure which address is real. Tax residence should be analysed separately in each place that might ask.
Constant movement does not automatically mean you are tax resident nowhere.

Information
Some employers restrict countries, networks or the handling of client information. Data-residency rules, where they apply to the work, are a further question for the organisation.
Before you go
Ask whether the immigration status permits the work you actually do. A right to visit is not a right to work. Official requirements should be checked.
Ask for the policy in writing. An employer can forbid a location even when a visa would allow it.
Ask a tax adviser. Days, a home, family and work can all matter. A digital-nomad visa does not decide the question.
Ask whether salary can stay on the home payroll, and what would force a local one. This page does not describe a country’s payroll.
Ask whether your presence could create a local obligation for the organisation, not only for you.
Contributions may stay, move, or overlap. Ask which system you are in before you assume the home one continues.
Ask what the visa requires and what you would want if you were ill. They can be different policies.
Ask about a partner’s work rights, children, school and healthcare as separate permissions.
Ask the bank whether this pattern of travel and residence is acceptable. A visa does not require a bank to keep an account.
Keep your own record of where you were. The record is evidence. It is not a legal test.
Ask what a further country would do to the visa, to tax residence, and to the employer’s position.
Watch for
Situations
These are situations, not outcomes. What is permitted depends on the countries and on the work.
Scenario 1
Employer permission, payroll, and whether tax residence could arise. The period is a situation, not a legal test.
Scenario 2
Immigration permission, how invoices are issued, and local registration.
Scenario 3
Where the company is managed, and whether a director’s location creates questions.
Scenario 4
Two employers or two client bases, and two sets of permissions.
Scenario 5
Dependants, school, healthcare and the partner’s right to work.
Scenario 6
Overlapping permissions, day records, and the risk of assuming no country is relevant.
Advice
This page separates the questions. It does not tell you that remote work is lawful, and it does not describe a tax outcome.
Compare digital nomad services
Working remotely abroad is a combination of immigration, employment, tax, insurance and practical-living questions.
Compare digital-nomad insurance, visa and mobility providers, remote-work compliance platforms, and flexible accommodation services by coverage, use case and client type.
A health-insurance provider, an immigration platform and a coliving company solve completely different problems. Compare the category first, then the provider.

What to compare
01
Does the visa actually permit remote work?
02
Can an employer legally support work from that country?
03
Travel medical insurance, or long-term international health insurance?
04
How long can you legally stay?
05
Time spent abroad may affect tax residence.
06
A short hotel, a medium-term apartment, or coliving?
07
Will the service still work when you move country again?
08
Can the service support a partner or children?
6 providers listed for comparison.

Digital-nomad visas, work and residence permits, and global mobility support. Support does not guarantee approval.
Visa support and remote-work permission depend on the destination and the employment structure. Approval is not guaranteed.
Flexible accommodation platform
Furnished stays for remote work and longer visits. A booking does not create a visa, a right to work, or tax residence.
Housing availability, local tenancy rules and property terms vary by jurisdiction and listing.
Worldwide health insurance
Long-term worldwide health insurance and travel-health insurance. It does not file visas or arrange housing.
Insurance is provided or backed through partner insurers. Cover limits and home-country rules vary by product.
Coliving and remote-work accommodation
Remote-work housing, coliving and community. It does not advise on immigration, tax or employment.

Remote-work compliance platform
Work-from-abroad compliance, global employment, immigration and relocation for employer-managed moves.
Remote-work authorisation depends on the employer and the service. Tax, immigration and employment risks need a case review.
Nomad health and travel insurance
Travel medical and health cover for people living and working abroad. It does not file visas or manage employer compliance.
Insurance eligibility, exclusions, primary-residence rules and country restrictions must be checked in the current policy wording.
Short published facts only. Reach is not a country list, and these labels are not ratings.
A visa service is not health insurance. An accommodation booking is not permission to work.

Medium-term furnished housing. Flatio publishes this. A stay is not a residence status.
