What cookies are

Cookies are small text files stored on a device when you use a website.

Some cookies are necessary for a website to work. Others remember a choice, measure visits, or recognise a referral.

Some technologies are not cookies but can store information in a similar way. Local storage and session storage are examples. They live in the browser and can keep tool progress on that device.

Different technologies are used for different purposes. A store of checklist ticks is not the same thing as an advertising cookie.

How WiT Access uses cookies and similar technologies

What is in use today is separate from what might be added later.

Currently used

• Local storage, so tools can keep the entries you choose to save on this device.
• Local storage for the comparison tray, so selected providers stay available while you move between pages.

Not currently used

• Cookies set by WiT Access, including a cookie that remembers a consent choice.
• Session storage.
• Analytics or advertising cookies.
• Referral or affiliate cookies and tracking parameters added by WiT Access.
• A sign-in or admin cookie on the public site.

Forms use a hidden field and a timestamp to reduce automated submissions. Those values are sent with the form. They are not stored as a cookie.

What is currently used on WiT Access

Cookies currently used

The WiT Access application does not set cookies. It does not set a consent cookie, a session cookie, an analytics cookie or an affiliate cookie.

Local storage currently used

Tools listed in the table below write to local storage in this browser. The residency day tracker does not. Its entries stay on the open page and are gone when you leave or refresh.

Third-party technologies currently used

Typefaces are included with the site. A page view does not request them from a separate font service. The site does not embed third-party media, analytics, or an error-monitoring script.

Search sends the words you type to this website so it can return matching pages. That request is not stored as a cookie.

Types of cookies and storage we may use

Strictly necessary

Not currently in use as cookies. Nothing in the application has to set a cookie for the public pages to load.

Functional

Not currently in use as cookies. There is no cookie that remembers a display preference or a signed-in session.

Analytics

Not currently in use. The site does not load an analytics service or set an analytics cookie.

Referral / affiliate

Not currently in use by WiT Access. Outbound links are not given WiT Access tracking parameters, and the site does not set an affiliate cookie.

Local browser storage

In use. Interactive tools save progress in local storage so it can remain on the same device. Details are in the table below.

Cookie and storage details

Every entry below is local storage set by WiT Access. Essential means required for the public site to load. None of these entries are. Duration for each is: Until you clear it. The site does not set an expiry.

The health insurance needs builder can store a yes or no for whether a pre-existing condition would need a conversation with an insurer. It asks you not to enter a diagnosis. That answer stays in wit-tool-health-needs unless you submit it on a form.

What is stored on your device

Some WiT Access tools save your entries in your browser so your progress remains available on the same device. Unless a tool explicitly says otherwise, this information stays on your device and is not sent to WiT Access.

• The international move checklist stores ticks only.
• The country presence log stores the stays you add. The separate residency day tracker does not save to the device.
• The banking eligibility checker stores its answers locally. They are sent only if you submit the optional enquiry on that page.
• Checklists, worksheets, planners and calculators that offer Save in this browser or a reset control store what you enter.
• The provider shortlist and the comparison workspace store the filters and providers you save.

You can remove a tool’s data with its reset, clear or delete control, where the tool shows one. You can also clear site data for witaccess.com in your browser. That removes every key in the table.

Your cookie choices

WiT Access currently aims to operate with minimal cookie use. There is no cookie banner, because the application does not set optional cookies.

If optional cookies are introduced, the site should provide appropriate choice controls before those cookies are set. A reject choice should be as available as an accept choice, and you should be able to reopen the choice later.

This section is the cookie-preferences page. The footer link Cookie preferences returns here. There is no separate preferences centre to reopen.

Managing cookies in your browser

You can also use your browser to block cookies, delete cookies, clear local site data, or browse privately. The steps differ by browser and are described in the browser’s own help.

Blocking storage can stop a tool from keeping progress. It should not stop you reading the public pages, because those pages do not rely on a WiT Access cookie.

Third-party services

WiT Access does not currently load analytics, embedded players, referral platforms or a fraud-prevention script that would set a third-party cookie.

Typefaces are served with the application. They are not fetched from a third party when you open a page.

Form messages are delivered by email. That delivery does not set a cookie in your browser.

When you leave WiT Access and visit a provider or third-party website, that website applies its own cookie and privacy policies.

Analytics

Analytics are not currently used. The site does not measure visits with an analytics cookie or a similar identifier, and there is no consent prompt for analytics because none are loaded.

Referral and affiliate tracking

WiT Access does not currently add referral or affiliate parameters to provider links, and it does not set a cookie so a partner can recognise a visit.

A provider’s own website may still use its own cookies after you arrive there. That is outside this policy. It does not apply to every link, and it is not operated by WiT Access.

Essential and optional technologies

Essential technologies are those required for the site to operate or to keep it secure. WiT Access does not currently set an essential cookie.

Optional technologies cover analytics, convenience cookies and referral tracking. None of those cookies are in use.

Local storage used by tools is optional in the sense that the site can be read without it. It is created when you use a tool, not before you arrive. Optional cookies, if they are added later, should not be set before any consent the law requires.

How long cookies and stored data remain

How long information remains depends on the technology. WiT Access does not currently set a session cookie or a preference cookie with a fixed lifetime.

Local storage remains until you delete it, the tool overwrites it, or you clear site data. The application does not give these keys an expiry date.

The residency day tracker keeps what you type only while that page is open.

Future changes

If WiT Access later introduces new cookies or similar technologies, this page will be updated to explain what they do, whether they are essential or optional, and what choices are available to users.
