What type of business-insurance provider is this?

An independent global insurance broker. Lockton does not itself underwrite the policy. Understanding the provider model helps explain who designs the programme, who places the insurance and who ultimately carries the risk.

Who it may suit

Lockton may be relevant to International businesses, corporates, multinationals and specialist-risk organisations.

Where can the provider support your business?

Very high global reach. Capabilities vary by local Lockton office and practice. Confirm the jurisdiction and the product line. Global reach is not identical capability in every country.

Property and business interruption

Strong. Buildings, machinery, equipment, inventory and income interruption are separate questions. Contingent interruption and natural catastrophe depend on the wording. No limit is stated here.

Liability

Strong. Public and general liability, product liability and cross-border liability are not the same contract in every country. Employers’ liability, where it exists, is often local.

Professional indemnity and errors and omissions

Strong. This can include professional negligence, a service failure or a financial-loss claim. Technology and financial lines, where described, are still policy-specific.

Directors and officers

Strong. Management liability, investigations and claims against the people who run the company sit in this line. Entity cover, where it exists, is in the wording.

Cyber insurance

Strong. Ransomware, business interruption, breach response, privacy liability and incident response are separate sections. This page does not say every cyber policy includes every one of them.

Business travel and employee protection

Strong. Strong through People Solutions and mobility benefits. Travel accident, emergency medical and group health are different contracts. See travel insurance and international health insurance for the personal side of those questions.

Cargo, transit and fleet

Strong specialist capabilities. Marine cargo, goods in transit, logistics and commercial vehicles are separate from a buildings policy.

Political violence and crisis risks

Available as a specialist line. Available through crisis and specialty practices. Terrorism, civil unrest, political risk and kidnap or ransom cover are specialty lines. None of this is universal availability.

Multinational programme capability

Strong. A master programme, local policies, difference-in-conditions or difference-in-limits cover, central reporting and claims coordination are design questions. A master policy does not override local regulation.

Local admitted policies and compliance

Strong global-network capability. Compulsory local policies, premium taxes, local contracts and local claims handling follow the country where the risk sits. International insurance programme design should be coordinated with legal and tax advisers where required.

Risk consulting

Strong. Property engineering, cyber assessment, supply-chain work and business continuity, where offered, are advisory. They are not a statement that a loss will be prevented or paid.

Claims advocacy and servicing

Strong, with large integrated claims teams. Claims preparation, insurer negotiation and local coordination matter when more than one policy or country is involved. Support is not a decision that a claim will be paid.

What changes international business-insurance pricing?
